The Art of Rail
Really pleased to be involved with “The Art of Rail”, as part of the SALA 2023 program. This is an exhibition that will be on display at the Keswick Railway Terminal, the same Terminal that the Ghan leaves Adelaide for the epic journey through the red centre and on to Darwin.
This is a unique project where Journey Beyond (the operators of the rail experiences of the Ghan, The Indian Pacific, The Great Souther and the Overland) has brought together 3 artists to bring their impressions of the various journeys.
The works displayed will be featured in an on line auction with a major contribution being provided to charity. In my case, I have nominated the Rotary Club of Adelaide to support their Centenary Year.
The essence of place
I have frequently thought about what makes a painting a painting as opposed to a photograph. Why do some landscapes paintings stand out from others. I have thought about what goes through the mind, about the attraction to actually sit down and paint. It is not necessarily a visual grandeur, it is more of an emotional attachment. That is the difference between what is a mediocre painting and one that has the feeling from the heart.
