We talk about a timeless grandeur of the Arkaroola landscape. In this work I have tried to capture the thirst of a landscape in the cycle of life. The day is beginning to warm, there is a feeling of death. And yet there is still some sign of life in the background. There is a hope that the landscape will recover, that the trees will shed their parched exterior. That is the conundrum and the cleverness of nature, that it adapts, it survives but doesn’t quite conquer.

Out of stockOil Painting Mount Wedge Impression of the late afternoon light on Mount Wedge
Central Mount Wedge captures the quintessential character of the western desert. It is a striking mountain rising out from the surrounding flat plains, wedge-like. It features the typical pink and purple hues and sets a background behind the mulga trees, a casuarina forest, a salt lake, or rich red desert sand that also dominate the country.

Out of stockOil Painting Mt Liebig
Set in an imposing range where the mountains seemed to change colour depending upon the time day. It is steep and rugged, you can understand why artists from Hermannsburg and Papunya were be inspired by this mountain, its story, its cultural significance and its shear majesty.
Mount Liebig featured strongly in the stories of Lasseter and the search for the fabled reef.
